To install WP, I need to turn off open_base , will this affect my forum ?

No. But I think Wordpress works with open_basedir, too?

I am not sure Stefan as for some reason WP wasn't getting installed, throwing out database connectivity error after giving the details in the config file. Upon asking in support forums for the control panel, I was advised to turn off open_base
