It would be convenient to offer users third party logins like Facebook Connect or Google+ Sign-In out of the box!

We will add a login handler so it will be easier to write plugins for that. But I don't think it's a feature that should be core.

This won't be implemented in to 1.8. It's too large a feature for a minor release.

FB Connect will also be a pain in the lime to maintain given how often they like to update their API and break all existing apps.

What about the login handler???? is it in the 1.8 feature list? or some way to make it easier to write plugins for adding additional login/registration options?

Yes. We just won't be including third party logins in the core.

Hey fine by me! Atleast it's going to be made easier to implememt! Maybe we'll see some phenomenally better (error-less) plugins for login extension, awesome! Would majorly boost forum registrations I think! Whatever it takes to make the whole experience easier and seamless for new forum users.

Exactly. Facebook seem to be rolling out major API changes every month. That means rolling out a tiny update with those API changes. Painful!

If only there was a single plugin to handle most login systems. Most APIs use OAuth so it wouldn't be that hard, right?
