I use the default theme.
There are 2 "New Thread" and "New Post" Buttons.
I don't want the top ones, I only need the lower ones.

Go to forumdisplay_threadlist template and remove the first:

{$newthread}

Go to showthread template and remove the first:

{$newreply}

Thanks effone, I was wanting this as well but with the bottom one. I can work it out now, pretty much the same as the top one.
