Most likely a hosting issue. Who is your host? Try a trace route to your site. It was very slow to initially load for me as well.
I have DSL and it took about 8 seconds to load!
What does the "Page Generation" time say at the bottom of the forum?
I don't have it at the bottom of my forum.
Each forum comes with this statistic "Generated in 0.1009870 seconds (89.31% PHP / 10.69% MySQL)" It will help a great deal to figure out whether it's the server that's slow or the connection.
I'll look again and see if I can find it.
You have to be logged in as admin, and it will be in the lower right corner!
You might have it disabled as well.
ACP -> Board Settings -> Change -> Server and Optimization Options
Make sure that Advanced Stats / Debug information is set to yes.
