Success!!! Although its not the upgrade.

When you upload the 1.6.9 files and you go to the installer you select 1.6.8 (or the version of MyBB you are currently using). The rest should follow.
As Nathan has already said, give [Docs: Upgrading] a really good read before you start the upgrade.
[docs]Upgrading#Beginning_the_Upgrade[/docs] might be the most useful section to you.

This reply really helps and I will print out the docs before I attempt it again. All this because the image button on the editor quit working! I swear I did read both the docs, but apparently not well. At least the forum is up and running again! Sans the image button.
