Is there any way I can make a copy of the theme I have installed so that I may make changes to it and ONLY it before using the changes in the Live environment? And I mean everything, images, template mods, style sheets the whole thing.

admin panel >> themes >> your theme >> options button at right side >> Export Theme
then in next screen select No for Include customized items only? and Yes for Include templates

theme's images folder needs to be backed up separately.
