I wasn't quite sure where to post this, so sorry in advance if it belongs in a different category.

I am wondering if there is an easy way to globally change the link to a user's profile to something of my own choosing.

For example, where the link would usually be "http://rollingtimes.org/member.php?action=profile&uid=1", it would instead link to "...org/user/Patrick/". Note: this is a different page, not just a redirect to member.php

I aim to create a custom user page which can display other elements from across my website (e.g. comments made on news posts; shows that users have been to), but I don't want to leave users confused by having two different user pages.

you can modify member profile page to include whatever you want. or use Userpages plugin and modify its output
