I've looked all over for a solution to this, and nobody else seems to be having this problem.

My board: http://teotu.keithpickering.net/
MyBB version: 1.6.9, new install (moved from localhost)

Test account:
Username: mybb_test
Password: mybb_test

I've removed two of the default profile fields (ICQ and MSN) and I'm attempting to add new fields for more modern services, like Facebook and Twitter. I want users to be able to copy and paste the url to their page and have it create a link.

When I add any other text to the custom fields, it works just fine. However, typing a link in the field (i.e. anything containing "http://") just brings up the main page. No visible errors and the field is not saved.

I know this SHOULD be possible, considering there's a "website" field that supports URLs just fine. Any ideas?
You can use the social sites plugin, made by Matt Rogowski. You can edit and add new social networking sites.

That seems like a neat plugin, but I think that's just avoiding an underlying issue. I don't think this should be happening.
The websites field is made to accept http; the others are not. Try looking in member php, alternatively, you could try what a lot of us uuse to patch these small issues in MyBB.

^ url is accepted in a text field on local test board !
Edit: also tested on a live board (image)
Tried on a separate theme and the issue persists

And if .m. was able to enter a url on a test board, I'd rather not edit core files.

I've also been having a problem in which large posts (i.e. ones with a lot of images, externally hosted or not) refuse to go through. This also takes me to the index without any sort of error message. Think the two issues could be related in some way?

UPDATE: My host was able to fix both problems by disabling some security setting. Thanks for the suggestions, though!
Glad you were able to get it sorted; but the plugin I linked does not edit core files - you use it in templates.
