I have also read to register myself more than one account and have conversations with myself to get discussions going, but it would be weird if your members knew you were talking to your self

Well... I'm not gonna lie to you, I'm not into your skin. I have nothing against you or the creator, but it just seems wrong to me. Wanting your MyBB forum to look like the default vBulletin skin..

Content is a good place to start, just post useful information and create discussion at your site, users need a reason to join and stay. Then after you have a some good content, then you can start to advertise your site to people. DennisTT's idea is good, word of mouth is a good place to start.
