That's a lot less visible though. I think that they should add a GitHub button or something on the new site.

I have already suggested that.
They said there will be a site revamp coming up with 1.8's and mod's site release and it will be added then.

Most likely when 1.8 is released. Everything is redesigned so keeping site-wide consistency would be nice.
