I remember back in the day (a year ago?) when you opened a stylesheet for editing, MyBB would colour code it and format it nicely. When you pressed tab it'd indent it for you (not skip the textfield as per browser default).
What happened to that?
you are referring to CodePress. it still exists at admin panel >> preferences
however it can mess up your code changes and it is advised to turn it OFF

It's turned on for me but it's still raw.

I'm on Chrome so that explains it. Personally I like CodePress just because of the indentation. I hate having to copy+paste a tab so it indents properly.
a word of caution again -: CodePress can ruin your code changes. MyBB developers are replacing it with CodeMirror
