You can turn it on in Configuration -> Forum Home Options. Change the setting to Yes.

Show x viewing forum turn on change to yes but not working

I guess you use custom theme then. Go to Templates & Style -> Templates -> Expand Templates of your theme -> Forum Bit Templates -> forumbit_depth2_forum -> Add {$forum_viewers_text} wherever you want it
