Is there some guideline for maximum number of posts in a topic? Usually you see forums administrators split a topic after x number of posts to "part 2" and so forth. I'm not sure why they do it.

Is there some guideline for maximum number of posts on a topic before splitting it to a new topic (in relation to performance or stability or something)?
