I set up a couple of test global announcements but they don't show up. They are there under the moderator CP, and seem to have been created properly, but when I log in as another user they are not there.
Any ideas? A setting? Oh - and I set Announcements Limit to 5 just to be sure.

I think I was mistaken. I see the announcements now (unless you fixed it since I last looked). I thought a global announcement would show in the main page above all the forums rather than inside.
Is there a way to place an announcement on the first entry page?

Btw - is the first page (the index page) the same as the portal page?
^ no. index page is the first page or home page unless you redirect users to portal or other page.
