Do you just have to rename the admin folder in FTP to change your adminCP directory or is there more to it? I don't want my adminCP to be on a directory as simple as /admin as anyone can guess it.

you have to also put the new admin folder in inc/config.php file 
$config['admin_dir']

Edit: you can also use Admin CP Honeypot (fake admin panel login)
