i want to hide download links from Guests and some specific user groups. how can i do it?

you can try using scdcode hide plugin or hide links plugin
please see reviews page for both the plugins (reviews link available on the plugin page)

hide links plugin's review page has required code modifications to make it work. not yet tested suggested plugins on MyBB 1.6.10
however, registered links plugin is found to be working fine for your requirement.
