My webhosting expired 5 months ago. I decide now to get back into the scene. I try and find my database and directory backups but all I find are old ones.

Do you think if I pay the invoice for my webhosting service again, I can regain access to everything? (Note: my domain already expired, and is taken by somebody else already)

No, they probably deleted everything you had the second your account expired.

Nope, I contacted them and they said they still had it. Sure enough, it's still there.

Maybe because they are a smaller host (it sounds like it since I've never heard of them before).

I think it's good practice for a lot of hosts to keep your data for a while after expiration -- I know many of them do this, but 5 months seems lengthy.
