Can someone please shed some light on what this means

It happens when trying to view the main index page, but doesn't happen all the time. Other members are getting this randomly too

Are your database connection settings correct?

Contact your host and ask them why your MySQL server is down a lot.

aware of shared hostings that most of them cannot give stable sql support. Limit your querys or other people makes traffic a lot and you are down.

Shouldn't happen if you are paying for your hosting (unless you choose a really really poor host). Otherwise you should really complain about it because you're definitely not getting something you're paying for.
