hello i'm looking to add categories to theads.
I would like to have threads categorized (technology, mobile, etc..) so when a user starts a thread he can choose which category the thread belongs to.
I also need users to be able to search through categories.

I think that is the post icons. Replacing the default MyBB post icons with your custom post icons should do the trick.

Thats thread prefix i think if you want to make like those go to
admin cp > configuration > Thread prefixes > and add new prefix for games
in prefix
write games
in display style use html to add image and classes
after select your forums and groups who use this prefix and then save
