After MyBB 1.8 it will be 2.0. You will be able to upgrade to MyBB 2.0.

MyBB 2.0 doesn't exist at this point. When there's more information to be released, we'll post it on our blog.

I'm not quite sure what you're asking. Can you elaborate?
whether the plugins used on MyBB 1.6.10 still can be used in MyBB 1.8
There won't be any major changes to the plugin system, but some will need to be updated.
Specifically:
- Plugins which rely on Prototype.js (Switched to jQuery)
- Plugins which rely on XML data over AJAX (Much of this is now JSON)
- Plugins which fetch/insert IP addresses from/in to the database (IPv6 support)
And possibly a few others.
