Hi I have a few of these .htaccess files that restrict access and do some more stuff but I am wondering if people can see it then what is the point of having them. I can see this one: http://www.mybb.com/.htaccess

We run NGINX which doesn't use .htaccess files. That's just a file which was left over from the days we used Apache. If you're running Apache, the only way someone can view your .htaccess file is if the server is misconfigured.
