click on mybb_users at left hand column then again on sql tab at the right side to enter the query & run it

or you can use force postbit layout plugin so that the setting at the showthread options is enforced for all users.
this plugin does not have configuration settings. upload the plugin file and activate it at the plugins page on admin panel
