Full Version: Getting around post flooding

I have set a limit to how many threads you can post as well as flood protection. But I've noticed how users get around this by simply deleting their thread and post a new one. The reason this works is because there are no trashbin and previous posts that are deleted no longer counts in the script.
A member reported another member for doing this and when looking into their account it says they've only posted 1 post, so I cannot verify that this member actually is doing this.

Is there anything that can be done about this? I cannot see anyway to track deleted posts at all. If not, I would suggest something gets added to prevent this.

Thanks, PinkStar
Well you can ask some of your mods to keep an eye on the user. Or better still put such suspected users into post moderation. So even if they keep on posting its going to go to moderation.

Can you please give your site link, so I Can get more idea of what is going on.
first of all why you are allowing members to delete threads. remove permissions to delete threads from normal members except mods and admin.

and this plugin would be useful to track deleted threads/posts: http://mods.mybb.com/view/undo-delete
Thank you for the feedback.

I don't have mods and would prefer to not get more work by moderating if I can help it.
I want to allow members to remove their own threads/posts so I don't want to change the permissions unless this becomes a big issue.
Thank you for the plugin link - I've searched plugins but didn't find this one and will give this a try.

I still suggest a trashbin and tracking of all posts like on most other forums.
Thank you,
PinkStar
Well it may or may not help, that plugin but try it.

You could create that yourself. Make a forum called "Trash" which you could put under an "Admin Only" section. Of course this whole part of the forum will be invisible to normal users other than yourself. Make it so that whenever a post or thread is "deleted" it really just sends it to this Trash section.
I found a plugin for this. To get it to work you will need to edit the plugin (.php file) and change the 14* to 16*. I have tested this on my forum, BitLeak.net, and it works perfect.

Example below:

Whenever a thread or post is deleted it will automatically go to your "trash" section and become locked.

You can download it form here: http://mods.mybb.com/view/trash-can-forum

It does work. I even explained to you how to make it work. I am using the same version of myBB as you and it works perfect.
