I know it's a false positive
I want to be able to display that it's valid HTML (and it is AFAIK). Any way to get past these errors?
You could change DOCTYPE in htmldoctype template (ungrouped) so it's for HTML5. But that may bring other errors if you use outdated HTML.

Gives hundreds of errors for my site, and for the MyBB community forums.
^ well, that is the reason we suggest to simply ignore the doc type error shown at the validator.
I don't think there is any advantage by showing html & css validation badges
Align, valign and width attributes are not supported in HTML5, that's why you get validation errors when using html5 doctype.
