Looking to create a sub forum that is not visible by general users. To become visible a moderator would specifically enable a user and then that users can see the subforum and post.

Can this be done?
You have a couple options, although all require admins to do it.

1) Make a new usergroup that is able to view and post in that forum. Make the default group not able to view it. Best solution.

2) Password Protect that forum. Not as secure because someone can leak the password to others.

3) Use the Custom User Permissions Plugin. This lets you set permissions on an individual level. The default usergroup should not have permission to view it. You then enter each person's name that should be allowed to view it in Customer User Permissions. Then use Edit Specific Forum Permissions. Most complicated solution, but can be helpful at times.
I attempted making the sub forum and I turned off the permissions for everyone but admin and moderators. But the subforum was still visible to all. Is there some other config screen other than the "ADD NEW FORUM" to configure the forum to hide it?

Where do you add the forum password?

Can you post a screenshot of your permissions?

Go add a password to a forum: Go to ACP>Forums & Management>FORUM NAME>Edit Forum Settings>Additional Forum Options>Forum Password
