In exchange for ending the shutdown of the United States Government and raising the U.S. debt limit the extremist faction of the Republican Party known as the Tea Party is demanding a ransom. They demand that the PPACA (a.k.a. Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act a.k.a. ObamaCare) either be delayed for one year or defunded or rendered unworkable by revoking the individual mandate and the employer mandate.

They further demand that the President of the United States, Barack Obama and the Senate agree to deep cuts in government programs that assist the poor, the elderly and millions of Americans who would not be able to sustain themselves without government intervention. Extremist Conservative Republicans make these demands even though they are responsible for previously extracting crippling reductions to government spending in 2011 with the sequester. To force their demands Speaker of the House of Representatives John Boehner refuses to let the house vote on a clean CR (Continuing Resolution). John Boehner also refuses to enter into negotiations with the Senate to pass either a clean CR or an increase in the U.S. debt limit.

Extreme Conservatives in the GOP are committed to shrinking the federal government through spending reductions and deregulation. They believe that small government is a panacea for America’s economic problems. They represent the most intransigent parts of society whose view is that they need nothing from government. They are willing to go to any lengths to deny either government protection or government assistance to millions of Americans. To achieve their goals they are willing to risk bankrupting the government by breaching the debt limit and allowing the U.S. to default on its financial commitments while simultaneously sending the U.S. and possibly the entire world into depression. The economic problems that America faces can only be made worse by the scorched earth, take no prisoners tactics we see coming from out of control radical Republican Conservatives.

To end this standoff the President along with the help of Democrats and moderate Republicans must take back control of the US government by denying John Boehner and the Tea Party Republicans the ability to hold America hostage. Americans must demand that their government officials embrace the idea that they are required to work in the best interests of every citizen and not surrender to the outrageous demands of the radical fringe of the Republican Party.
