Yeah, I think it was fairly obvious to every one that puppyite's intent was to start a debate. That in-itself shouldn't be enough to ban him but who knows what he did/said that the mods may have deleted, especially if we already know that he had the intent to start a problem.

The real definition.

The real definition is exactly as its stated in the US Constitution (at least as applied on MyBB since it is a US based site) and applies solely to the government, and only the government, censoring or blocking speech.

On a side note, no one has the "Right to not be Offended".

governments grant rights?!!?
Well, they generally just decide which ones to not take away. Big Grin

fair enough.

Is freedom of speech a right or a privilege?

Why are some opinions permitted and others seen as unacceptable?

What is the definition of fair play as it relates to freedom of expression?

When does censorship go too far?

These are questions I am asking myself now.

What do you think?

IMO freedom of speech is implied wherever the public is invited to post. Forums should clearly specify what is forbidden. Members should have unambiguous guidelines. When applied these rules should be more than: Anything we don’t like is forbidden.
MyBB, too, has global forum rules as well as guidelines as to what general discussion should be about.

While we won't list an exact list of things you can or cannot talk about, as we promote free discussion wherever possible, the team will moderate any subject that we know (historically) may be sensitive to the many cultures, sub-cultures and religions that visit and interact here.

The worst enemy of free speech are the people who execute it.

Sending a message for a chilling effect is a strange way to promote “free discussion”.
