If you use FileZilla, go to "Server" (on top) and select "Force showing hidden files" or something similar, I don't have English FileZilla.
Maybe can be permissions too for your FTP account, do you review since cpanel on FTP provided by tour hosting ?
Well maybe you can try on this way and delete from there your file, then try to do it your task

Yeah, I found the problem. Forgot that they'd recently moved my board to a new beta FTP, and I was FTPing to the old server. It upgraded without a hitch! Sorry for the ruckus!
