in phpbb there was an option to insert a clickable image link where a forum would normally be, does anyone know if there is a plugin for mybb that does the same and if so what is it called? thank you...

hi if you pop over to
www.muscletalk.co.uk, scroll down the main page and you will see forums and then forums but with advertising images that are clickable with descriptions, phpbb has this built in where you add your link url details, image url details and then your description then save and its there , I want to do the same here if that is possible, thanks,
^ there is no such facility in MyBB or in phpBB (referred site is not using phpBB)
however you can manually add whatever you need anywhere in MyBB forum.

Go to your AdminCP, "Forums & Posts", and click "New forum", you'll see the image shown above.

Click "Show additional options" on the bottom, and it'll show the page as you can see in the image shown above. In the "Forum link" textfield, paste your link to your image URL (as you said yourself), and it'll link to an image.
And if you meant that you want the forum to SHOW an image, as in description, you can type <img src="LINKTOYOURIMAGE" /> in the description field of the forum, and your image will show there.
