I would like to default all new users and new posts "Subscribe and receive email notification of new replies".

I made the change, but it didn't seem to work. The last item in the post suggests the change stopped working after a certain version.

Is there a way to do this?

I am running new fresh install of MyBB 1.6.11.

Thanks .m. - I have made the adjustment, but need to wait until tomorrow to test because I've already created a few test users from my own IP.

I've tried both the "edits version" and the "mod" version, but whenever I do that the "Submit Registration!" button disappears from the /member.php so I can't complete a registration. It seems strange that I have the same issue with the two different approaches. It makes me wonder if I am doing something wrong...
Any ideas?

I found out that, for some reason, lines after the changes I made in member_register were being truncated. Maybe because I put extra blank lines in the file. After I figured that out, I still couldn't get the plug in to work, but I did get the manual method to work:
