Certainly not possible. Templates are stored in the database, not in a file.

Yes .. the built-in editor is not very good. I couldn't get used to it, and I always edit my whole template with notepad++, and then install it, each time. Very uncomfortable...

I ever use BIE and no problems, i deactivate the option to see code via admin control panel and this way works like a charm, the only stuppidity thing is if i put some bad code it broken all entire code sometimes, so i ever use notepad ++ to change some values and finally when i am sure of this code i add to my templates even if i activate code marks opt, because notepad change format codes of copy & paste and the only way to works fine is disabling this option via Admin CP and works fine.
