It would be nice if tag system would be included in Mybb. So that users can tag threads or select from predefined by moderators tags.

It is too big, too deep and too important for separate plugin.

They can be off by default, but everything needs tags. Tags help a lot.

There's already one big way to categorize threads. Forums.

Honestly, I don't really see the point of a tag system as the search feature comes in useful when I'm specifically looking for something and it just adds yet another layer of complexity for people to understand.

Tags can be helpful, but if done incorrectly can be a resource hog. I have been developing a plugin for a while (still too rough to release to the public) because of the performance of existing plugins available here.

I don't support this. If absolutely needed, it can just pull tags from the body content of the post.
