Why Multiquote doesn't work when I change the image from .gif to png? I mean then image doesn't change from postbit_multiquote to postbit_multiquote_on

Despite of template have you changed the extensions from gif to png in thread.js line nos 19, 52 & 57 ?

just a note:
if you rename the png image files as a gif images and use them then no edits are required in the templates & javascript files
