I'm guessing these images are post file attachments. My forum gets about 10 posts a month, yet there are a few thousand images in this folder. Isn't it supposed to be broken down by month? There are a few monthly folders in there, but they seem to have stopped in 2011.

Is there any way to automatically make MyBB split these images into monthly folders?

IIRC if the script can't create the directory in ./uploads/, it'll stick them in the uploads directory. You can always run the orphaned attachments search in the ACP to find any attachments which can be deleted.
