Hey guys,
I'm eddie. I am the owner of www.eddiekeyton.com and i used to run SMF. I used to swear by it. My forum has only been up for roughly a month, if that. SMF started going really slow, sometimes not loading at all. I was getting complaints about errors (DB errors). Then they started taking my VPS offline. My VPS is 8 cores with 10GB of ram lol. How is a forum with 50 members and 1,100 posts going to do that. Nope, it was the SMF coding doing it. So I then started searching. I wanted something that sort of resembled vBulletin because I like the way there forums are. Just don't have the money to buy something that expensive for a startup forum. I then saw mybb. I then asked myself, how the heck have I missed this amazing looking software for so many years? I installed a test copy, not intending to convert over. I then saw that we can use a script to convert from SMF > myBB. I had to give it a shot, just to see if it would work flawlessly. Low and behold it did everything I wanted it to. So I backed up my SMF, went in and deleted it after downloading my backup, then moved mybb into the root directory. I have been running it ever since. 3 days ago. OMG its so fast and smooth! My members love it, I love it. Thank you guys so much for creating such a piece of software and offering it to us for free! I love it, and will use it for the life of my forums!
edit: How do I get the announcement thing like on this site at the top, on the main forum page. The yellow and green announcements. Is there a mod for that?
