I'm aware that it can be done on general configuration but is there a way for the Board Name on my forum index to be different from the title on google?

You can use conditional plugin by Zinga Burga or would need to make a new theme and set it especially for bots and then edit from your header template of that "bot theme" the "title" property (between <title> tags).
