Is it possible/how to change message length allowed, to different length, for individual forums ?

I think you can achieve this with xThreads' settings per forum basis feature. Not entirely sure though.

Dont have xThreads plugin installed on the forum in question, although took a look at one with xThreads installed, and there seemed to be no setting related to this question.
Also, always reluctant to use plugins, as concerned they may cause problems when upgrade versions of MyBB.

There should be new options within the edit forum page. Also note, that handling plugin updates could be easier that core patches.

Am not sure what you are refering to by 'should be new options within the edit forum page'.
Are you refering to the xT plugin. or the ACP. or... ?
