Sorry if I'm being dense, but what is the function of the "Forum Link" variable?

More to the point, I'm trying to understand if MyBB supports aliased "friendly" URLs to forums and subforums. If you can point me to an answer or 'how-to' about that, I'd really appreciate it.

Redirection. When the users views a forum with a Forum Link, the user is redirected to that URL.

By friendly URL, you mean SEO'ed? Atm, we have a plug that will do that, but it will be a feature in 1.4 which is currently in development.
Thanks very much for your quick and helpful reply.

So, if I understand correctly, this is a way to put external links into the list of categories, forums and sub-forums? Is that correct?

If that's the case then, are there special tags for these links so that they don't have to be formatted with the "zero" columns for posts & replies and other forum related stuff?

Is there a reason for doing links this way instead of building them into the template (so that they don't look like forums)?

Not really but close enough.
(I meant "understandable human user". [Which, please, will not be dubbed, "UHU".] The search engines figure it out on their own terms. LOL)

Thanks again for your quick come-back on this. Happy new year!
The SEO mod make your url's change from something like:

http://lolwtf.org/forums/forumdisplay.php?fid=4

to

http://lolwtf.org/forums/Foxconn-Steps-up-to-the-Graphics-Plate-t-2634.html

for example, and search engines and other sites much prefer this type of link.

Yes. You can see here: http://community.mybboard.net/forumdisplay.php?fid=21 , the French, German, Italian, and Persian forums are links to external websites/forums.

If you do not want your link to be part of the forum list, you can add your link using normal HTML in one of the templates (such as header, or footer)
