Not so much so that the MyBB developers can make money, though that would be a nice bonus for you guys, but so that it will draw quality plugin and theme development. That's not to say there aren't already some excellent plugins that have been created and are maintained. But more couldn't hurt, and IMO the theme development area could use a big boost.
It would not only draw new developers, but encourage current developers to maintain and improve their plugins and themes.
A great example of this is Prestashop. They have a well-designed, modern repository of plugins and themes. Some for sale, some for free.
The for sale modules are generally way overpriced. Some of them ridiculously so (199euro for a module for some of these!), but these are also plugins designed for retail shops, not a simple hobby or niche blog. I don't mean to copy the price scheme, but the general idea of how they do it.
