can any one make simple portal for mybb like this?

it will be nice then because lots of people want portal and default portal is sucks

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/?mod=1104 like this
The default portal does not actually suck. If you want control over sideboxes without having to do any HTML yourself then try Advanced Sidebox by Wildcard.
when people connect to my domain

they come to index.php not portal.php
so use a portal redirect mod or rename portal to index.

I agree the standard portal doesn't suck but I wish there was a simple checkbox in settings to make it your landing page or not. Does renaming the portal page to index.php work if you have SEO Friendly links turned on. I seem to remember reading that it doesn't. Is there a work around for that?

Thanks,

Auriel
Well, I think the issue is that you would probably need to edit the htaccess as otherwise the redirect to forums.php would not work. That is why the system as laid out in that thread "does not work with friendly urls". The author of the thread probably did not want to enter the minefield of broken htaccess files and yells for help and so did not explain it. I must say I sympathise.

LF,

That makes sense. Is there or could you write a brief tutorial on how to swap to portal view including the .htaccess hack? Of course do this in such a way that I don't end up being one of those people yelling for help.

Either way, thank you for the insight.

You can't really expect everything to be always bundled together.
