Yeah, that's what I meant by "but then you're limiting yourself browser wise even further": browsers all have slightly differing implementations. Cookies would be the easiest and best way for now, but in the future localstorage may become more viable. If it was written as a plugin to the editor somehow, it would allow us to swap out implementations in the future should the need arise.
