All of a sudden my theme won't load. Looking in System Health it says that the folder ./cache/themes doesn't have the correct chmod.
I login to my ftp and there are no themes folder (??) so I create one and cmod it. All green in System Health as it sees the folder with the correct chmod.
But my template is still not loading properly. What else do I need to do?

I don't actually understand what you are trying to say?
Themes are not in "Themes" folder
First pick up a mybb theme & install it with the help of this tutorial: http://community.mybb.com/thread-112862.html

After importing/installing go to ACP > Templates & Style {TAB} > select any theme's "OPTIONS" > Set as default. PREVIEW

But I'm not having problem installing a new theme, but my current theme all of a sudden stopped loading properly.

Try going to your theme and saving the global.css.
