Hi all,

I see that MyBB as well does not use a SEO plugin (rewriting URLS).
Is this still needed? I'm not familiar with SEO so I don't know. What I do know is that threads as /thread-4281941 are not "friendly". You will get linked more often when /thread-SEO-help-tutorial.

Does your forum run this SEO plugin?
It's not a big deal, and certainly not part of some "magical formula" you need to use.

If you want to squeeze in some points you can and you should use pretty URLs. There's little reason not to.

Otherwise, just let your content do the job.

Google's Search Engine Optimization Starter Guide is a good read.
I don't know - I find they're a bit clunky for the little benefits they provide nowadays. I heard Google has changed the way they rank sites again, so who knows... I don't use them personally; myBB pretty URLs do the job for me and we're pretty highly ranked on Google for what we need.
