1) Always keep your board up to date running the latest version
2) Only install plugins from reputable authors
3) Use registration question if you want to block spam signups at entry, alternatively, allow spam sign ups and moderate first post/install Spamalyser.

From Hackers:
- Install reliable, tested, & plugins from trusted authors.
- Make the choice of your Forum Admins keenly.
- Disallow Shell Access to cPanel (I read this somewhere... on some website, someday)
- Use a strong MyBB Admin Password, so that it is difficult to crack even if your board is hacked. (This is really recommended.)
- Change mybb's Hashing algorithm if you need real security. For MD5 can now be easily cracked.
From Spammers
- Use Yumi's/Zinga Burga's Plugins of anti-spamming.
- Though, you cannot stop spammers, its impossible.
