a cpl of users on our board are getting banned every so often for posting a link automatically by the mybb system.

Seems to be no logic to this happening randomly is there a setting somewhere to remove their IP?
I thought perhaps they had been 'remembering' them

AdminCP -> Configuration -> Banning

of course they're not on that list but it seems to be happening to the same cpl of people and they certainly are not posting spam

What plugins do you have installed?
