In the footer file, it states that I may not remove or alter the MyBB copyright info. Can I remove the debug info though?

Yes, you can, by going to Admin CP > Board Settings > Change > Server and Optimization Options > and set "Advanced Stats / Debug information" to no and click "submit changes" ( Note: only administrators see the debug info).

Just FYI The debug info is only shown to the administrator.
