Have some of the options like quote, and a few bbcodes in quick edit.

Well, that is because it is very nice thing to have. I did not see any other threads, when I posted this.

Adding features to compete with IPB imho is a bad idea. Part of the appeal of mybb is the simple yet powerful base it's structured on. Features can be added easily by member with plugins.

I agree. Keep it
quick not bloated. If you want the formatting toolbar, use the Full Edit. We name it Full Edit for a reason, instead of "Slow Edit"
