I've been through it with MyBB, my host and with cloudflare and the errors have been going on for a year or so now.

NONE of the resources are being maxed out. Not even close to spiking to max. I've changed servers 3 times when the host was stumped and couldn't figure anything else to do except try a different server.

If it's not resources... What else could they be from? They seem to be happening in clumps. Where it will be fine for 90% of the time and then one day for several hours the site will slow down and all these errors get returned.

Then seemingly back to normal again.

My only thought is that it's possibly due to Google SEO URL re-writes. Is that possible?

Any other ideas regarding this?
502 and 503 errors suggest server problems. Example: (I'm on a VPS) - So if I chew through 80% of the CPU my site will automatically throw a 503 service unavailable. But that's because I am the only user. Not necessarily anything to do with your site, perhaps another user?
Thanks for your reply Ben.

This is a brand new server they put me on and it's happened on all 3 or 4 that I've been on. It will throw up all of these within a short period. Normally it happens at least once a week for several hours where the site becomes painfully slow and randomly throws these errors up. The timing is random and there's no correlation with activity on the site, or anything I may be doing at the time admin wise. After several hours, it normally settles down again. The host is clueless even though I've given them the cloudflare logs.

Here is a sample of them to give an idea of the variance.

I would be finding a new host. Probably an issue with the Datacenter they host in. There is such a thing as network congestion. That, and you can't tell network congestion from a bar of soap if you're simply a reseller.
Are you using CloudFlare? If so, have you experienced these errors before?
It's probably better to check your own logs before Cloudflare's. Dig into your Apache logs and let's take a look.
Are all of CloudFlares ranges white listed everywhere (http://cloudflare.com/ips)?

Yes and yes - but they were self-inflicted. My whole point.
@Ben, i thought your point was that they were likely due to my host. if you've had the same errors but they were self-inflicted then perhaps it's not due to the host. What did you do to cause the errors?

@Rymax, i have been through it several times with hosting. They say the ips are not rate-limited

@Tecca, I'm assuming the host is checking these logs. That the same as error logs in cpanel? Normally they tell me they don't even see them. They tell me 503 are very hard to track down.

Here is one of their responses to the errors. What's very strange is none of them happen at all until the begin happening in clumps at the same time. So everything will be fine. Then once a week or so will start to get all of these showing up at the same time (as posted above).

Here is two of their replies:
Quote:It is possible that TCP requests/responses stuck somewhere at network devices, but I am not able to check it due to a lack of access. If you don't mind, I would like to ask you to contact CF support regarding fresh logs dated from May 1 and forward them to [email protected] one more time. Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to track 522,503,502 errors - they appears randomly, while the server is not loaded and your account resource usage is not out of limit. I will create the ticket in out support system and will update you periodically. If such scheme of investigation is okay for you, let's proceed.

then

Quote:Thank you for your patience, please find a report of investigation of Cloudflare issue below.

As Cloudflare Support Staff states, the 522 error returns when there is no connection between a server where your account is hosted on (the server at Namecheap) and Cloudflare server. We would like to pay your attention that 522 error is returned by Cloudflare server.

In addition to Cloudflare proxy service you decided to use, there is one more proxy in the way of requests. This proxy is installed on all our shared, business and reseller servers and is called Haproxy. It is used as a load balancing software which caches a part of requests and decreases the load of Apache webserver.

The fact of existence of two proxies in requests' way, may give unexpected results. One of such results, we assume, is the reason of 522 error message. It may occur when Haproxy or Apache service is restarted. While restarting, Cloudflare server, most likely, does not receive SYN-ACK packet (because they are simply not sent), and generates 522 message.

We must say, that Apache and Haproxy are often restarted due to different reasons. It is required to restart there services when modifications in configuration are implemented or when restart should help to mitigate the server's load, for example.

As for 502/503 error messages, this is a response from Namecheap's server, not Cloudflare's one. Such responses are usually returned by Haproxy when Apache server is unavailable. Unfortunately, there are not server logs dated from May 8, so we are not able to check what exactly occurred with Namecheap server that day.

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Of course I then had to let them know that the error logs in the original support request were from the 20th and resend them again.

They then sent this back. They found these in the logs, but I'm not sure if they correspond with the timing of the 502 503 522 etc...Asked me to relay to cloudflare to see if cloudflare could determine what they were. Cloudflare support escalated the issue to some higher ups and still haven't heard back from them.

What does the "urlblock" mean? Can you figure it out with CF support?

We are not sure if it has to do with your weekly issues, but if there's something blocked - it is better to know it.

I'm not saying they are your fault - It's almost impossible for you to re-create the exact variables that I had to get a 522 error on my end (I deleted a VM, so 522 was indeed returned as a "We can't connect to the server" error message.

If you're on a shared host, particularly with a registrar, I would strongly reccomend moving to a hosting company.
