I followed the installation instructions up to where it says: "If you installed your forums to http://www.yoursite.com/forums/ then you would visit http://www.yoursite.com/forums/install" but when i went to it for my website, i got a 404 error message. Is there a way to get the installation wizard to start without me getting a 404 error message? Thanks in advance.
Make sure you uploaded the install folder to the folder where your forum is installed. A 404 error means the page could not be found so there was probably an error uploading.
i am having the same problem of error 404 when i go to http://www.myhost.com/forum/install/

i have everything uploaded using SmartFTP and i followed the wiki word for word so far, i just get stuck on the actual install. I dont know if it makes a difference but my host isn't a .com it is a .edu. i am installing the forum for use with a student organization.
when you go to the forum do you have a 404 error?
in my case when i go to eaither http://www.myhost.edu/forum/ or http://www.myhost.edu/forum/install/ i get the 404 error both times.
Table PopulationNow that the basic tables have been created, it's time to insert the default data.

The default data has successfully been inserted into the database. Click Next to insert the default MyBB template and theme sets.

but after that its not Going Ahead! I tried many times Sad
I receive an Error 404 also.

I did not see a solution posted here.

I have verified my path several times.

I assume that index.php should be the first thing to run ... but perhaps that calls for another file that may be missing. I was unable to copy the entire folder, my server often errored out. So, I copied groups of files at a time. I may have missed one. I will perform an audit between the original zip files and the files I transferred to see if one (or more are missing) ... but /forum/install/index.php is there (and so is upgrade.php).

The address is www.perennialdawn.com

The server is via 1 and 1.

Any assistance would be appreciated.
If your getting a 404 error and you have verified the existence of the files, contact your host.

@bitslinker, can you start a fresh installation?
OK. I am a loser!

I did not properly verify my path.

My home page or more importantly, URL pointed to subdirectory at my host server. I had placed the "Upload" files in the root directory at my host server.

Once I moved the "Upload" files to a directory that was properly structured. Everything worked very well.

Kudos to the MyBB team for making this very easy to use.
I to am having the same problem, I have verified my path several times, I've evcen copied and pasted it from the FTP account into my browser, but I still get a 404 error message! My forums are installed here: www.seanstech.net/forums/
I don't know if it makes a difference or not about it being .net instead of .com, but Iused to have MyBB forums installed in the root directory only a week or two ago...
