That's kinda the point of the default avatar, so that everyone that doesn't have an avatar has something occupying the space. In a lot of forums/themes users without an avatar makes the postbit and other areas not seem right, so I'd disagree.

He says that the "Remove Avatar" button should be removed, not the default avatar. I think there should be an issue similar to this: https://github.com/mybb/mybb/issues/454 but entitled "Hide stuff users can't change", containing things such as:
- hide avatar remove button if user has no custom avatar
- http://community.mybb.com/thread-154464.html - hide theme selector in footer, User CP and ACP if there is only one theme, hide language selector in registration form, User CP and ACP if only one language, hide "Jump to calendar" and "Calendar" (add event) in calendar.php if there is only one calendar

There are probably more. Why hide them? Because they serve no purpose and users don't need to be bothered with them.
